One of the questions I'm asked most at the end of a Free-Motion Mastery in a Monthworkshop is "Now that I know I can quilt, how do I decide WHAT to quilt WHERE on my quilt?"

The September 2018 issue of American Quilter has a wonderful article by Margaret Solomon Gunn called "The Art of the Symmetrical Whole Cloth Quilt" that provides some really good answers to this question. In it, Margaret takes you step by step through the process of creating a whole-quilt design. She even teaches you how to create the full-size templates, mark the quilt and choose thread. The 10(!)-page article is beautifully illustrated with diagrams and photographs.

Get the magazine (available in digital and print versions) and save the article -- this is a rare tutorial from a master quilter (Margaret has won many awards, including a number of Best-of-Shows at major festivals) that will inspire you to create your own masterpiece.

Happy quilting!  ~ RaNae
