This quilt was one of the original samples for the first proposal for Simply Amazing Spiral Quilts. That proposal was rejected (but with really helpful suggestions that ultimately made it a viable and successful book). I had sent the center section, unfinished, with the proposal. When I came back to the proposal -- and the quilt -- a year later, I didn't like the original design any more. That's when the Radiant panels, the corners and the "wings" were incorporated into the design.
One of the really tricky things about the new design was that it goes from a hexagon, to an octagon, to a square. In trying to figure out how to make it work, I finally just laid it out and sewed, working it out as I went. So don't ask for a pattern! :)
Linda Taylor, a world-renowned pioneer in the art of machine quilting, did the quilting. I am really fortunate to have had her collaboration. Her website is www.lequilters.com.
